Who We Are

kidscamp-1

The Optimist Club of Centre Wellington-Fergus is a community-based volunteer organization dedicated to supporting youth, strengthening our communities, and creating opportunities for future generations.

As part of Optimist International, we are proud to bring people together through service, leadership, and positive action that benefits children and families across Centre Wellington.

OUR MISSION AND VISION

We are committed to inspiring optimism as a way of life. Through volunteer service, we aim to develop the full potential of youth and create a supportive environment where individuals and families can thrive.

Founded on the idea that a positive outlook can inspire meaningful change, the Optimists Club focuses on supporting young people through programs, events, and initiatives that encourage growth, leadership, and confidence. From local fundraisers and community projects to youth sports, scholarships, and mentorship opportunities, our mission is simple: to make a lasting impact where it matters most.

What We Do

Supporting Youth Through Programs & Opportunities

We proudly support local youth through a variety of Optimist International programs and community initiatives, including:

  • Public speaking competitions
  • Essay contests
  • Junior golf tournaments
  • Leadership development opportunities
  • Post-secondary scholarships
  • Financial assistance for youth programs and events

Our goal is to help young people grow into confident, capable leaders while creating safe and supportive spaces for them to thrive.

What We Believe

Positive Vision Creates Positive Change

At the heart of Optimism is the belief that hope, encouragement, and community support can bring out the very best in young people.

Optimist International is recognized worldwide as a leading volunteer organization focused on helping children reach their full potential.

Our Impact

Every project we take on is driven by a desire to make a difference—and the results speak for themselves. Since the club’s inception in 2005, our 60+ dedicated members have raised over $250,000 in support of youth and community initiatives, while making more than 300 donations to local programs, teams, and families.

Whether it's helping a child gain confidence through sports, supporting local families in times of need, or creating memorable community events, our impact continues to grow year after year. Behind every dollar raised and every donation made is a group of passionate volunteers who genuinely care about strengthening our community.

Empowerment Day

The Optimist Clubs of the UGDSB Area are proud to support the 2026 Empowerment Series — an inspiring initiative bringing together Grade 7 and 8 students from across the Upper Grand District School Board.

Originally created by students in 2015, Empowerment Day has grown into a four-event series focused on positivity, inclusion, self-worth, and kindness.

This year’s theme, “Kindness Matters,” encourages students to treat others with respect, choose compassion, and believe in themselves.

Students will hear from an incredible lineup of motivational speakers and guests, including Michel Chikwanine, Stacey Kay, Brian Williams, and Paralympian Patrick Anderson.

Through events like the Empowerment Series, the Optimist Clubs remain committed to supporting and empowering youth throughout our communities.

Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Foundation (HOBY)

The Optimist Club is proud to support students participating in the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) program — an internationally recognized leadership initiative focused on empowering young people to become confident, compassionate leaders in their schools and communities.

Through interactive leadership seminars, teamwork activities, volunteer opportunities, and community-focused learning, HOBY helps students discover their strengths, build confidence, and develop the skills needed to make a positive impact both in and outside the classroom.

By supporting programs like HOBY, the Optimist Club continues its commitment to investing in the next generation of leaders and encouraging youth to lead with integrity, service, kindness, and a strong sense of community involvement.
